This
spacious, well-lit area is filled with numerous, immense kegs carved with
their brew names. One area is set aside for storing varieties of grains,
another for fruits, herbs and spices, another where fresh hops are drying
and yet another with barley spread out during the malting process. You
can see grains being crushed in a stone mill then being lightly roasted
in a wood-fired oven. An air of secrecy prevails in the mixing area where
a Hithual master brewer precisely follows the recipes, placing some ingredients
in a boiling caldron, a foamy pot of barm nearby. Different ales, beers
and meads are all brewing and being checked for their flavor. In the back
section you see smaller casks and kegs being filled and some are being
prepared for transport. Half a dozen grinning Hithuals move about diligently
performing their various tasks while singing lively drinking songs in
anticipation of trying out the finished products. A sweet, intoxicating
aroma emanates from the brewing vessels.
An ornate sign over the door, a closed black crystal doored granite bookcase, a burlap bag of barley, a large heap of wheat, a crate of oats, a cloth sack of dried hops, a pile of malted barley, a sack of sugar, a keg of molasses, a barrel of honey, a large basket of raspberries, a large barrel of spring water, a rosewood mead brewing barrel, an oak beer brewing barrel, a steelwood ale brewing barrel, a large keg of Silverforge ale, a stack of empty kegs, an empty shallow silver sampling tankard and an open gold-flecked black granite door are here. |

Engraved
flagon of Highland's Mist Beer
This fine beer's recipe originates with the Highland Clans and is brewed with mist that is collected with great difficulty up in the Highlands. The batches are extremely small due to the volume of mist required thus making this excellent beer quite the rare find. To top it off, this beer comes in a masterfully engraved flagon. Flagon of ancient Aerhauvens Finest meade I came across this rarest of treasures while doing some travels in the Aerhauven caverns. There was a mild tremor and I noticed an opening to an underground cave. Upon inspection I found a cache of well preserved meade with inscriptions on the crates stating the name of this brew. There was a scroll in one of the crates marked with the brewmaster's symbol and dated Year 211. The lot had been apparently lost during some tremors that sealed the cave shut. What a truly marvelous find! Tankard of rare Chieftan's Choice ale In one of my many journies to seek out the ultimate brew, I happened upon a small and quite out-of-the-way tavern. The proprietor refused me entry at first because this tavern is only for Hithual Clan Chiefs. Being that my Uncle is quite retired and has turned the clan responsibilities over to me, I was able to convince the fellow to let me in. We struck up a deal that from time to time he would supply me with just a little of this super-excellent ale. Perhaps someday I might convince him to sell me the recipe. Mug of strong Spurian Special beer This is my own special blend of expensive ingredients in honor of Spur's finally accepting my brewery plans. I had an option available to open my brewery in Aerhauven but I declined because there are so many immigrant kin passing through Spur and they deserve some quality brews. I also wanted to give all other races a chance to sample what we Hithuals hold so dear. Enchanting glass of fine lavender metheglyn This here be a meade that I talked me brewmaster into making as a result of some Secian friends requesting some brews that they could drink and fly with. Generally we don't make anything weak but this recipe was a true test of skill and I welcome you to judge by the result. This meade is slow fermented honey with an infusion of lavender flowers. These are not just any lavenders, but those that grow wild up in the Divide, making this seasonal and very rare indeed. Ornately etched glass of mild rose mead This also be a meade that I maked for some Secian friends. It is told that the recipe be over a thousand years old. Brewed with honey and a delicate infusion of select roses, this mild mead allows anyone who flies to do so without fear of plummeting to the ground. This is quite a time consuming brew to make and is quite rare indeed. Mug of Peaks Special Blend ale This is a very difficult ale to brew. The liquid comes from freshly melted ice from the highest peaks in the Great Divide. Just collecting the water is quite a dangerous feat to accomplish. There is a special blending of the highest quality grains to produce this exceptional ale. Ornate tankard of Wraith Pass lager This excellent ale is brewed in some very deep and icy caves in the Wraith Pass region wherefrom it gets its name. The brewing temperature must be kept very cold to insure the fine flavor. As you can imagine, there are quite a few dangers in transporting the ingredients all the way up North and traversing the caverns will usually mean fighting off a few unfriendlies. I convinced a couple of my brewers to take the risk, for extra pay of course and the result speaks for itself. Keg of Silverforge Rare stout By popular demand I was practically forced to bring back something in a larger container. These kegs contain around five times the usual huge volume in my tankards, mugs and flagons. I estimate that there's enough brew in one of these kegs to put at least 20 folks horizontal. This is a rare stout recipe handed down in me family for quite a few generations. The alcohol content is significantly greater than usual and it is brewed with a very dark, painstakingly slow roasted malted barley, with an ample amount of hops, making it an excellent brew for withstanding very long journies even by sea. It is quite delicious with a slight licorice-like aroma and a flavor reminiscent of dark chocolate. There is a delicate background hint of fruit which balances all the flavors together. |
